I love this post Karen. My true self has changed more that a few times in my life. I will be 67 in a little less than a month and I am morphing into yet another iteration of my true self. Throughout the many iterations of my true self I have always made sure to nurture my true self and not pay much heed to what others thought of who I choose to be in life.

This was interesting to ponder. I think humans spend a LOT of time ignoring our true selves in pursuit of other things. In high school my career aptitude testing revealed that I should pursue writing and journalism. Instead, I pursued getting pregnant at 18 😂😂 Then, I lived a lot of years trying to survive as a single mom.

It wasn't until my 30s that I actually did start writing and twenty years later I've never stopped!

Hi Kristi, snap! I had my first child at 20. :o) Was a single mum for a while. I chose it. thought I was in control. hey ho it's made me who I am today and I am pretty satisfied with who I am most of the time.. Ha ha...

In my late 30s got into personal development and haven't looked back but didn't start writing again until my eldest son died in a road crash. Since then I haven't been able to ignore myself, though I have tried. Ha ha... (No idea how to use emojis on my my laptop ;o))

I think we're trained to ignore our true selves in pursuit of keeping the cogs of the economy rolling and if we had adults around us who hadn't been trained in the same way things could be so different. Hmm....

We have more in common than we realize! I also lost my son a few years ago. It’s a super shitty club to be in, isnt it. ❤️

I agree, my mom still thinks traditional work trumps pursuing passions. Yet, here we are!

PS: If you're on a laptop, hit the windows key and period. That will bring up all the emojis you could ever want 😁

Shitty for sure but my brother also died in similar circumstances eight months after and I miss him like I'd miss a limb. And I have three other sons and have had to keep going for them as much as anything. ;o)

Don't know what the windows key is! Ha ha... Don't worry I will ask my son when I remember. Great to meet you. XX
