#12 My world. My home. My Heart. My life.
Gratitude for the most abundant place I know.
Two minutes of blissful birdsong. Grab a cuppa and relax…
is a house of mismatched second-hand furniture, cracked vinyl floors and love.
Cat fluff sticks to carpets and clothes.
My home has twelve inch stone walls and is cold in winter, cool in summer.
The kitchen oozes out warm smells of wholesome food.
From time to time the bathroom grows black mould from too long showers.
My home sits in between tolerable neighbours.
It looks out to fields and magnificent views of mountains.
It is a steep walk up the hill to the woods.
My garden is overgrown and shabby, sprawling grasses through the flower beds.
And a haven for wildlife.
I could manicure it into submission but that would be for others.
So, I allow the prunings to pile up,
pockets of chaos
and ant hills to grow.
It shelters bumble bees, shrews, toads and hedgehogs.
It’s alive with bird song most of the year.
My world has known devastation, grief, sadness and anger.
Lost dreams and missed opportunities.
My world is full of love, laughter, kindness.
And sometimes tears, misunderstandings and forgiveness.
My world is respectful, supportive and allows me to grow and learn.
To dance and sing and be myself.
It is full of family and cheekiness and pulling of legs.
My world has been full of heartbreak and joy that wants to burst out
and envelope the world.
My world is honest and ordinary.
And because of all these things it is the most abundant place I know.
What’s your home, world, heart like?
