How to Gently Transition to Honouring Your True Self in 2024 #42
Letting Go of Over Giving and People Pleasing to Allow Space for the True You to Come In
Letting Go of 2023
Dear Lovely You,
as we let go of 2023 it's time to reflect. What worked? What didn't? What did you want to change in 2023 to feel better but still find it’s the same as it ever was?
How do you want to feel in 2024?
In order to make space for your new identity of your True Self, of the Empowered Caretaker, you are going to have to let go of some things.
Maybe some big things. Maybe some small things.
Things like, old ways of thinking. Old beliefs. Doing too much. Putting everyone else first.
You need to make space for the juicier, more nourishing way of being to come in. For the You that’s been waiting in the wings ready to cherish you and all that you are.
Shedding Your Old Identity of the Exhausted Caretaker
Imagine you have a wardrobe or closet, chocker block full of clothes and you buy yourself a new outfit. An outfit that is you as you are right now. It feels so good on your skin. It fits you perfectly. The fabric is lush. The colour perfect. The tailoring exquisite.
Some of the items you have in your wardrobe you've had since you were very young. They don't fit you any more. You know the colours don't suit your skin tone. You know you're never going to wear them again. But you're still attached to them. They bring back memories. Good ones perhaps or maybe not. They remind you of your youth. Parts of you you’re not ready to let go of yet.
But they’re not you any more. If you were able to fit into them, you know you would look and feel ridiculous. But still you let them take up space in your life and in your mind.
You know something has to go to let in the new outfit that makes you feel so good but you feel torn.
You have to choose but choosing is scary. Letting go is scary.
Then you remember you don't have to do it all in one go and you don’t have to do it alone. You can get some support from somewhere as you adjust to the idea. You call a friend you've known for a long time. Maybe they were in your life back then. Maybe they weren't.
Or you call a new friend. It doesn't matter. You trust them.
You explain that you know you need to let go of the old clothes to have space for the new ones but are finding it hard.
Maybe they need to do the same? They have a couple of pairs of shoes they love but they are old and uncomfortable now.
This is what this Honouring Your True Self Community is for. This is where you get to let go of the old habits of over giving and people pleasing and start to take better care of yourself.
This is how you begin to come home to yourself once more and have more energy and fun.
This is the safe place you evolve together. With acceptance, support and trust.
This is a place where you learn to Trust YourSelf.
You take the old clothes out and lay them somewhere. You hang out with them. You talk about them. Where you wore them. The experiences you had together. How you felt.
Your friend takes out her shoes and does the same.
It takes some time. But it's very individual. Maybe minutes. Maybe hours, days or a few weeks.
After a while you stop noticing the old clothes so much as you enjoy wearing your new outfit. The one that embodies who you are as a person now.
You still appreciate some or many of the qualities from your old clothes.
AND feel a sense of confidence in your New Identity.
Eventually you know you're ready. You feel it and letting go becomes the easy and obvious thing to do.
You wrap up the old clothes, your friend wraps up her old shoes and you take them to the charity shop or thrift store for someone else to enjoy.
You keep the good memories and the qualities that you still value from the old times.
Back home you now have the space to store your new clothes, so they are looked after and cared for properly. It feels good knowing who you are.
Becoming an Empowered Caretaker
Letting go of the old you takes times.
Some parts will be easy to let go of and it will happen quite quickly. Most of the time it happens little by little as you build capacity within yourself to allow yourself to blossom and flourish. Your nervous system needs time to adjust.
No forcing or pushing through.
You don't have to do it until you feel ready.
A gradual awakening…
In the mean time, you work on what's coming up. You don't need to burn bridges. Or jump off cliffs but sometimes you'll be ready for that too.
You're here for a reason. Something you have seen or read here has resonated with you in some way. Something isn't right.
You want to feel different to how you have been feeling.
You want to love your life again.
You want to feel more energy.
You want more time to do some of the things you love to do.
And you know you need to let go of who you have been - taking care of everyone else first.
And you start to take care of yourself first instead.
You start to honour your energy.
Say ‘no’ more to others.
Allow time for the things that light you up.
Let go of toxic relationships or relationships that don't align with who you are any more. You let in new ones.
You start to have fun again.
Laughter becomes a daily habit.
Joy a daily goal.
And things begin to line up in your life to support you.
Wishing you all Inner Peace and Satisfaction as we glide, stumble or trip into the New Year
